The story

Assaggi di Paradiso, which translates to "Tastes of Paradise," is a sampler-style dessert that originated in the Umbrian hill town of Assisi, Italy. The dish is a signature offering at Osteria del Mulino, where it was developed by the culinary team behind the *Sentieri Golosi* experience. As a tasting platter of miniature sweets, it allows diners to sample a curated selection of local confections without committing to a single dessert. Key ingredients typically include local honey from the Umbrian hills, almonds, dark chocolate, and seasonal fruits such as figs or grapes, often paired with a splash of Sagrantino wine or a drizzle of truffle honey. A great version of Assaggi di Paradiso is distinguished by the harmony of textures and flavors—each morsel must balance sweetness with a subtle savory or acidic note, and the presentation should evoke the region’s rustic elegance, often arranged on a slate or wooden board. Regional variations can be found across Umbria: some cooks incorporate liqueur-soaked fruit or replace Almonds with hazelnuts, while others add a cheese component like fresh ricotta or pecorino to bridge sweet and savory. At Osteria del Mulino, the dish remains a tribute to Assisi’s monastic culinary traditions, with each bite intended to evoke the spiritual and sensory bliss of the city’s sacred landscape.

Highlights from 1 creator review of Assaggi di Paradiso.

  • Very good raw materials, food cooked very well, generous portions — some dishes take you back to grandmother's cooking and childhood memories. The wine was very good, the flatbread and ham were amazing, the lamb was amazing. We spent €83 for everything including two glasses of wine and two bottles of water.
