Cornetti Caldi are a traditional Italian breakfast pastry, particularly associated with the Sicilian town of San Vito Lo Capo. The name translates to “hot croissants,” emphasizing the importance of serving them fresh and warm. While the modern cornetto derives from the Austrian kipferl, introduced during the Habsburg rule, Sicily developed its own version enriched with local ingredients like semolina flour or citrus zest.

Key ingredients include a yeasted dough enriched with butter, eggs, sugar, and milk, resulting in a soft, airy interior. The dough is laminated through repeated folding and rolling to create delicate layers, then shaped into a crescent before baking.
