Sangria alla Giorgione

A refreshing summer sangria made with red wine, fresh fruit, honey, spices, and a touch of Sagrantino liquor, inspired by Giorgione's style.

Ingredients
15 items- NettarinaCut into pieces
- Pesca Schiacciata BiancaPeeled and cut into pieces
- Pera WilliamsPeeled and cut into pieces
- Fresh MintA few leaves for the jar and more for garnish
- 1 tspHoney
- Pink PepperA few berries, placed in a spice infuser
- ClovesA few cloves, placed in the same infuser
- 1 pcsLemonUnwaxed, sliced
- 1 pcsOrangeUnwaxed, sliced
- Liquore di SagrantinoA splash (a small amount)
- Brandy o CognacA splash (optional but recommended)
- Vino Rosso (Montefalco Rosso)Enough to fill the pitcher
- 2 tbspSugar
- MelonA slice, peeled and diced, added just before serving
- IceCubes to chill
Method
- Wash and cut nectarines into small pieces.
- Peel the white flat peach (schiacciata bianca) and cut into pieces.
- Peel the Williams pear and cut into pieces.
- Place the fruit in a large pitcher.
- Add a few fresh mint leaves.
- Add 1 teaspoon of honey.
- Optionally add a splash of red wine that was used to rehydrate cranberries (or skip).
- Place pink pepper berries and cloves in a perforated spice ball or egg-shaped infuser and add to the pitcher.
- Add slices of unwaxed lemon and orange (halved) to the pitcher.
- Add a splash of Sagrantino liquor and a splash of brandy or cognac.
- Pour red wine (Montefalco rosso or similar) into the pitcher until full.
- Add about 2 tablespoons of sugar, then stir well.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or up to half a day) to let flavors meld.
- Just before serving, add extra fresh mint leaves and a slice of melon (peeled and diced) for a fresh touch.
- Add ice cubes to the pitcher and stir.
- Serve in glasses, optionally including some pieces of fruit from the pitcher.
