The story
Tucked away on Via Malaspina in Palermo, Macelleria Da Andrea is a no-frills butcher shop that has earned a stellar 4.8-star rating—and for good reason. The Frama Twins, who visited as part of a Catania food tour, were blown away by both the high-quality meats and the creative prepared dishes. They singled out the Hot Chicken Leg and the caramelized onion rolls (Involtini Ripieni di Cipolla Caramellata) as standouts, but also raved about the La Siciliana, Crisby di Pollo, Hamburger Texano, and fresh Ricotta Fresca.
This is a local spot where counter seating and takeout are the norm, and the vibe is casual and neighborhood-driven. Everything the twins tried was delicious, making this butcher shop a hidden gem for anyone seeking authentic, well-prepared meat dishes in Palermo. It’s exactly the kind of place you’d walk past and miss—but shouldn’t.

Reviewers rave about the La Siciliana, a standout dish that embodies the restaurant’s soulful, rustic charm. The overall vibe is warm and unpretentious, celebrating bold, honest Italian flavors.
“This is their signature cutlet, stuffed with capocollo di maiale, fresh cipolletta, olives, and cheese, all breaded with crunchy caramelized breading. At first I was worried the meat might be heavy to swallow, but it's incredibly tender and juicy. The fresh cipolletta and olives really stand out, and the cheese is a nice big chunk. The breading is good too. You can tell the quality is there — Andrea definitely gained two new customers.”

A fantastic butcher shop in Catania with high-quality meats and creative prepared dishes — everything we tried was delicious, especially the Hot Chicken Leg and the caramelized onion rolls.

La Siciliana
This is their signature cutlet, stuffed with capocollo di maiale, fresh cipolletta, olives, and cheese, all breaded with crunchy caramelized breading. At first I was worried the meat might be heavy to swallow, but it's incredibly tender and juicy. The fresh cipolletta and olives really stand out, and the cheese is a nice big chunk. The breading is good too. You can tell the quality is there — Andrea definitely gained two new customers.
Hot Chicken Leg
This is chicken with cheddar inside, breaded with cornflake crumbs flavored with spicy paprika — a slight kick. The chicken is incredibly moist and juicy, the breading is crunchy and has a little spicy aftertaste. The cheddar is well balanced, but the chicken itself is the star. I'd come back just for this. It's my number one.
Crisby di Pollo
This one has chicken, smoked scamorza, and pepper inside, breaded with crumbs flavored with bacon. At the cut you can feel it's crunchier than the others. The bacon aftertaste is real — you get a bacon sensation in your mouth. The meat is very tender, and the filling is more noticeable than in the Hot Chicken Leg. But I still prefer the Hot Chicken Leg — the meat there is even more tender. Still, the bacon flavor is crazy.
Involtini Ripieni di Cipolla Caramellata
These are skewers of rolled meat stuffed with caramelized onion. You can see there's a lot of onion — it looks amazing. The meat is tender like the other pieces, very flavorful, and the caramelized onion gives it an incredible taste. The white scamorza cheese pairs perfectly with the meat and the onion. This is one of the best things we tried — maybe even better than the Hot Chicken Leg. It's a close call.
