I love that sizzle on the plate — that bubbling sizzle with the wettish dough. The bread is crispy paper thin, just a base for all those toppings. The cheese everything inside, loaded with the whole egg. It's so flaky — flaky on top of flaky, crispy from the dough and that batter, and then crispy from the Chips Oman with that seasoning, the egg giving it some richness just holding it together, and that kind of silky creamy cheese. There's so many layers to it because it's folded up with the paper thin batter. Always hits the spot when you need a snack in Oman.

    Loved

A historic fort in Nizwa where you can enjoy Omani street food snacks and unexpectedly receive home-cooked meals from the hospitable staff.

    Dishes mentioned

    • Omani Bread with Egg and Cheese
    • Home-Cooked Fried Tuna with Vegetables and Green Chili Sauce

The fried tuna is amazing. The homemade chili sauce is amazing — you taste that acidity plus an almost pickle flavor to it, it has a nice heat to it. Those vegetables have just been cooked down until they melt in your mouth — the creaminess of the eggplant, the okra, the onions and tomatoes. Once you taste that chili sauce you can't go back, you need it on every bite with the fish. The green chilies are insane heat and flavor — that chili has just elevated my senses.
