The story
Tucked away on Suffolk Street, O’Neill’s is the kind of Irish pub that wears its warmth and tradition proudly. Where The Foodies Go calls it a “lovely pub” serving great traditional fare, noting that the quality of pub food has “really improved” in recent years. The roast dinner earns a thumbs-up, but the kitchen also ventures into more unexpected territory with a chicken curry brightened by pomegranate and cashews, and a dessert of apple and blueberry crumble with vanilla ice cream.
Beyond the plates, O’Neill’s checks all the classic boxes: it’s lively, hosts live music, and feels like a genuine local spot rather than a tourist trap. With a solid 4.2-star rating and a menu that balances comfort with a touch of creativity, this Dublin 2 pub proves that reliable pub grub can still surprise you—especially when the curry comes with a crunch.

Reviewers praise O'Neill's traditional roast dinner as the standout, with a warm, comforting vibe that feels like a hearty home-cooked meal.
“My dish is beautiful. I got a traditional roast dinner that strongly reminds me of the Sunday roast they make in England. What is the Sunday roast? I won't tell you here because if you haven't seen the episode yet, go watch the episode entirely dedicated to the Sunday roast. In this case, there are two slices of beautiful roast beef, cauliflower gratin with cheese, various types of vegetables, and potatoes. It's very good. The smokiness of the gravy makes it even more appetizing. These potatoes, look how they've been roasted fantastically, they have a wonderful little crust around them and with the gravy you know it's the death of it.”

Chicken Curry with Pomegranate and Cashews
I ordered a chicken curry which might not seem very traditional, but actually many Indian dishes have now become an integral part of the cuisine of the United Kingdom and also Ireland in this case. If you remember, we already told you in an episode of the series dedicated to the UK that contrary to what one might think, the most consumed dish throughout the UK is not fish and chips but chicken tikka masala. Obviously this is the result of years of British domination in India and years of Indian emigration to the UK. The fact that in almost all the menus of all the pubs in Ireland you find at least one curry-based dish or something similar makes me think that this trend also exists in Ireland. So I ordered a chicken curry with pomegranate, cashews, white rice, and then there was also the option to add chips which I had added, but I thought they would bring them separately, instead they slapped them inside the plate together with the rice. Nice and spicy. Damn, it's good, very spiced. There's the acid of the pomegranate, the green beans, the chicken, it's very tender, very good.
Apple and Blueberry Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream
Apple and blueberry crumble with frozen vanilla. It's a hot compote of red fruits on which you melt, as the guy from L'Antico Vinaio would say, the vanilla ice cream with a fantastic chocolate crumble. All a fireworks display here.
