The story
Tucked away in the Cotswolds village of Guiting Power, The Halfway at Kineton is a traditional British pub earning a solid 4.6-star rating for its rustic charm and no-fuss, local atmosphere. With outdoor seating and a genuinely cosy feel, it’s the kind of place that feels like a well-kept secret—but as one creator roundup makes clear, it’s the kitchen that really steals the show.
In a roundup of the region’s top Sunday roasts, Where The Foodies Go named this pub the best of the three, citing "incredible lamb and roast beef" paired with "a fantastic gravy." The prawn cocktail and both roast beef and pulled lamb Sunday roasts earn high marks, but it’s the "phenomenal sticky date pudding" that seals the deal. For a classic Cotswolds Sunday lunch worth the journey, this is the stop.

AI summary of what 4 dish mentions say about the food
“This prawn cocktail is fantastic. It's not the cocktail I imagined. On the menu it said half a pint of prawns. So it arrives as a glass of prawns. Probably this is the ancestor of the cocktail we know. All with prawns like that. So you get a pint of steamed prawns that you have to peel yourself. Then there's cocktail sauce, butter, bread, and a bowl with water and lemon that immediately gives Bud Spencer vibes. I'd eat them with gusto. The sauce is scary but good.”

The best Sunday roast of the three, with incredible lamb and roast beef, a fantastic gravy, and a phenomenal sticky date pudding. Worth the trip.

Prawn Cocktail

Sunday Roast with Roast Beef
For me, Sunday roast is the one with beef, so I got the roast beef. This roast beef has a fantastic face. Look at this gravy, how dark it is. And look at this wonderful Yorkshire pudding stuffed. The beauty of Sunday roast is that you can make 15 of them, but the gravy will always be different. This one is sweeter than the others we've tasted so far and less spiced. The meat itself is very tender. Very good. The idea of putting crunchy potatoes on the mash is great. The mash has a fantastic face, super buttery and milky. It looked like pastry cream.
Sunday Roast with Pulled Lamb
I ordered the lamb. I'm intoxicated by how beautiful this gravy is. It looks like chestnut honey. Oh my god, look at that spectacle. It's not good. It's the most extraordinary and delicate thing that can be created in nature. If there's one thing they know how to do here, it's lamb. This lamb is super tender. This is pulled lamb, like pulled pork but with lamb. A sword of shredded lamb cooked at low temperature and then pressed into a little cup-shaped mold. The gravy will drive you crazy. I taste a bit of this Yorkshire pudding. Guys, I think we saved the best for last. Fantastic.
Sticky Date Pudding
This is not a sticky toffee pudding, it's called Sticky Date Something. It's always that. It's a little cake made with a kind of sponge. Inside there are dates, I think. On top there's a date and caramel sauce, a clotted cream ice cream, and a caramelized nut. Soft, creamy, very sweet, sticky, good. Good. Make love with the flavor. The Halfway at Kineton wins in my opinion. Actually it wins. But each of the ones we tasted is worth the trip.
