The story
Tucked near Piazza San Marco along a quiet canal, Trattoria alla Rivetta is a family-run institution in its third generation. Francesco Zini calls it a “historic trattoria” serving traditional Venetian seafood, with fried dishes and house-made desserts that were “exceptional.” The menu leans into local ingredients—Sarde in Saor, Moeca di Granchio Blu, and delicate Gamberetti di Fondale Fritti su Polenta all earn high marks.
Cosa mangiamo oggi? describes it as “a place where gondoliers eat,” a testament to its authenticity. Alongside seasonal seafood like Garusoli (murici) and Canocchie crude, the kitchen ventures into offal with Barbussai—tendini di vitello. Bigoli in Salsa appears on both creators’ lists, and the lively, waterfront setting makes this a genuine slice of Venetian dining.

AI summary of what 17 dish mentions say about the food
Reviewers rave about the moeche, a delicate soft-shell crab dish that steals the show. The overall vibe is one of rustic, heartfelt Venetian cooking that feels both authentic and warmly generous.
“Bigoli in salsa is one of the classic dishes of Venetian cuisine. The pasta is really enjoyable because it's nice and thick. It has an interesting bite. And the sauce alternates between sweet and salty. Super simple dish. Very humble. Absolute bomb. This is hands down my favorite Venetian pasta dish. If I lived in Venice, I'd be having bigoli in salsa 4 or 5 times a week. This pasta isn't spaghetti. It's something that gives you a little more satisfaction when you bite it. A bit like bucatini.”
“This bigoli in salsa is perfectly made. The pasta is cooked to perfection with the right bite. The sauce is balanced, slightly salty from the fish. I think it can compete with Anita's grandmother's recipe. Beats the one from Beepy for me.”

Dishes mentioned
Baccalà Mantecato
This baccalà mantecato is perfect. The whipping doesn't turn the cod into something too mushy, it still keeps its texture. The spread reaches twice the height of the polenta, just like Alessandro explained. It's good because you can still feel the fibers of the fish.
Barbussai (Tendini di Vitello)
These tendons have a Haribo-like texture, as the chef put it. They've been cooked, drained, and left at room temperature before being dressed with raw onion. They should stay exactly this texture, maybe a touch firmer. The contrast with the slightly crunchy onion is so good. The tendon melts away, and the onion crunches.
Garusoli (Murici)
These garusoli are already cleaned, dressed, and ready to be devoured. So good. One important thing: just like with offal, and even more so with fish, the selection changes every time. Today there are garusoli, tomorrow who knows. Today we got super lucky, it's a fantastic day, so the kitchen's offering is especially rich.
Canocchie Crude
Raw mantis shrimp with just a little herb oil and some tapioca pearls. They're all males except one. Find it. I'm not very familiar with mantis shrimp anatomy. The females are the ones with the three lines on their belly, and of course the ones carrying eggs. This one has coral, the egg sac, so it's a female. So good, super fresh. The guys came out of the kitchen and told us we were doing everything wrong. Mantis shrimp are not meant to be eaten with cutlery. You eat them like this and suck them. It's way more satisfying. The front leg section contains some meat. You need to pull them off. With your teeth, you make a little opening. Then you squeeze and the meat comes out.
Spaghetti al Nero di Seppia
Guys, an incredible pasta dish has just arrived. These little strips you see on top are nothing but lemon. You're going to want to order this dish. Careful, because this spaghetti stains. It stains your conscience a little too, if you ask me. And that lemon on top is incredible. The perfect bite.
A historic trattoria near Piazza San Marco serving traditional Venetian seafood dishes with a focus on local ingredients. The fried dishes and house-made desserts were exceptional. The atmosphere is lively and authentic, run by a family for three generations.
Dishes mentioned
Sarde in Saor
These sardines in saor are not even fried, just marinated. The flavor is very delicate with onion and vinegar – the onion has a perfect consistency, firm under the teeth. It's a great start.
Moeca di Granchio Blu
This blue crab moeca is an incredible fried product. It's much sweeter than the classic green crab. The frying is perfect, very crunchy. I wish it was always moeca season.
Gamberetti di Fondale Fritti su Polenta
These deep‑sea shrimp are very delicate – I expected them softer but they require chewing. They are extremely juicy, they retained all the juices. Very precious. I didn't expect them to be so good.
Calamaretti Piccoli Fritti con Polenta
These small calamari are crazy good. They are super juicy, with ink, crust, tentacles. The tentacle is very crunchy, the head soft and juicy. They taste like luxury popcorn. Incredible.
Pasticcio di Pesce
This fish lasagna is very good and well‑made, but maybe a bit too much béchamel – I don't taste the fish enough. However, it's very indulgent, soft and smooth flavor.
